Set Review: The Best of New Capenna for Modern and Pioneer, Part 1
Friday Apr 15, 2022
Friday Apr 15, 2022
Season 14, Episode 1: Brewer's Guide to New Capenna, Part 1
Streets of New Capenna is right around the corner, which means it is Christmas once again for us brewers. This set brings intriguing new mechanics and the return of shards, alongside their respective Charms and Ascendancies. Riveteers Ascendancy is an efficient engine alongside evoke elementals and Seasoned Pyromancer seems like the Riveteers (Jund for the boomers) dream. Obscura Charm seems built for Esper control, threatening to instantly reanimate a Teferi, Time Raveler – even more so with the aid of Tainted Indulgence, one of the best cards we have seen of its kind thanks to instant speed. But more importantly than any spell, the Triomes (even if not called Triomes) are back to finish one of the most important cycles in the last couple of years. Will UW finally splash green now that a Bant triome exists? Is Esper going to make a comeback as the new Charm and Triome push it forward? Only time will tell. Finally, we can’t forget some of the most powerful Planeswalkers we have seen in a while. Ob Nixilis, the Adversary is a nightmare for control. The capability of playing it on curve and presenting two planeswalkers seems like something most UW decks will struggle to beat. Vivien on the Hunt brings a new Pod chain into Modern thanks to Felidar Guardian. We can dream of Planebound Accomplice allowing for instant turn two wins. With all of these and more, this is certain to be a fun season of brewing as the formats adapt around the new guests. So, what do you think of New Capenna? Is the power level good enough for our formats? Will it make big waves, or just small fading ripples? No one can say for sure, but it certainly won’t be boring!

Everything You Need to Know to Get Back into Pioneer
Monday Apr 11, 2022
Monday Apr 11, 2022
Season 13, Episode 21: Pioneer State of the Format (March-April 2022)
There is tremendous interest in Pioneer right now. The format was already picking up some buzz, but the return of the Pro Tour and the upcoming Regional Championships, both of which will feature Pioneer, have kicked things up to another level. If you’ve been on the fence, now is the perfect time to jump back in and (re-)learn the format.
This episode is intended to be a resource for newer players who are not caught up on Pioneer, or veterans who are returning to Pioneer after an absence. We are going to run through the most important decks in the meta and give you the info you need to get started in Pioneer.
For each deck, we’re going to explain: 1. What the deck does at a high level; 2. Key cards and interactions to be aware of (including recent technology); and 3. Ways to fight against the strategy and key sideboard considerations.
Happy brewing and welcome back to Pioneer!

Friday Apr 08, 2022
Season 13, Episode 20: Weekly Roundup + Brew Session (Kaito Shizuki, Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh, Invoke Despair, Fable of the Mirror-Breaker)
In the last few years the Modern format has experienced more severe changes than at any point in the past. For the constant player, this has been progressive in nature and exciting to follow (even if expensive and a tad overwhelming), however not so much for casual enjoyers of the format or people taking a break. In today’s episode we try to extend a helping hand to those people.
Today on Faithless Brewing we are responding to one of the most common questions we got during our last mailbag episode: “How can I get started in Modern?” or “How can I get back into Modern after a break?"
This episode is intended to be a resource not only for new and returning Modern players, but also for anyone seeking a broader understanding of the best decks after the ban of Lurrus of the Dream-Den.
Our goal is to provide a clear idea of the strategies the most popular decks are employing, the key cards they utilize, and (more importantly for our beloved spike rogues) how to play around them. We cover a dozen tier 1 Modern decks and give our best matchup and sideboarding advice for tackling the meta in 2022.
So, is it possible to get back into the loop after being away from it? Absolutely yes! We hope this format guide is a stepping stone for anyone that needs it.
Happy brewing!

Regional Championships Are the Future of Competitive Magic
Monday Apr 04, 2022
Monday Apr 04, 2022
Season 13, Episode 19: Weekly Roundup + Flashback (Fable of the Mirror-Breaker)
We have seen the future of competitive Magic, and it is Regional Championships. The Pro Tour is back in a big way, and with it comes a surprising Pioneer renaissance. The lynchpin of the new system is an event that has not existed before: the Regional Championships, which will feed each Pro Tour three times per year. Part Nationals, part regional PTQ, part Magic Fest, Regional Championships are by far the most exciting component of the new organized play system.
In this episode of Faithless Brewing, Cavedan and Morde analyze the new structure and explain why Regional Championships are a very good thing. We also take a look at six early previews from Streets of New Capenna, and report on our testing results with Fable of the Mirror-Breaker in Modern and Pioneer.
